Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh 🌙
In the story of creation, one figure stands out as the symbol of arrogance, disobedience, and rebellion — Iblis. His story is a reminder for every believer about the dangers of pride and the importance of obeying Allah with humility and sincerity.
Let’s explore who Iblis is, his story in Islam, and what lessons we can learn from his downfall, insha’Allah.
🌿 The Creation of Iblis
Before the creation of Prophet Adam (AS), Allah created the angels from light and the jinn from smokeless fire. Iblis was among the jinn, but he worshipped Allah so sincerely that he was elevated and allowed to live among the angels.
However, Iblis was not an angel. Allah clearly says in the Qur’an:
“He was one of the jinn, and he disobeyed the command of his Lord.”
(Surah Al-Kahf 18:50)
This shows that Iblis had free will, unlike the angels, who never disobey Allah.
🌸 The Command to Bow
When Allah created Prophet Adam (AS), He honored him by commanding all the angels to bow to him as a sign of respect, not worship.
“And [mention] when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate to Adam,’ so they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:34)
Iblis refused to bow. His heart was filled with pride and jealousy. He believed he was better than Adam (AS) because he was created from fire while Adam was made of clay.
He said arrogantly:
“I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.”
(Surah Al-A’raf 7:12)
🔥 The Fall of Iblis
Because of his pride, Iblis was cast out of Paradise. Allah rejected him and removed him from His mercy.
But instead of repenting, Iblis became even more defiant. He blamed Allah for his downfall and made a dangerous promise — that he would mislead humanity until the Day of Judgment.
He said:
“Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path.”
(Surah Al-A’raf 7:16)
From that moment, Iblis became Shaytan (Satan) — the enemy of mankind.
💭 The Mission of Iblis
Iblis vowed to spend his existence deceiving humans, whispering evil thoughts into their hearts, and leading them away from Allah.
His goal is to make people:
Forget their prayers
Fall into sins and arrogance
Doubt Allah’s mercy
Follow desires instead of guidance
He doesn’t have power over believers, but he whispers (waswasah) to make them slip.
Allah warns us:
“Indeed, Shaytan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy.”
(Surah Fatir 35:6)
🌙 How Iblis Misleads
Iblis doesn’t force anyone to sin — he invites people through tricks and false promises.
He says things like:
“You can repent later.”
“It’s just a small sin.”
“Everyone else is doing it.”
But on the Day of Judgment, he will abandon those who followed him. The Qur’an tells us that he will say:
“Indeed, Allah had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you… I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me.”
(Surah Ibrahim 14:22)
His words remind us that our choices matter — we can’t blame Shaytan for our actions.
🌺 Lessons from the Story of Iblis
The story of Iblis teaches us powerful lessons about faith, humility, and obedience:
Never let pride enter your heart.
Iblis lost everything because of arrogance. We should always be humble before Allah and others.Obey Allah completely.
One act of disobedience led Iblis to eternal failure. True faith means submitting to Allah even when we don’t fully understand.Beware of Shaytan’s whispers.
He is clever and patient. Protect yourself through dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and daily prayers.Repent quickly when you sin.
Unlike Iblis, who refused to repent, a believer immediately turns back to Allah saying, “Astaghfirullah.”
🌿 How to Protect Ourselves from Iblis
Allah has given us many ways to guard our hearts against Shaytan:
Begin everything with Bismillah (In the name of Allah)
Pray regularly and on time
Recite Ayat al-Kursi and Surah Al-Baqarah
Remember Allah often (through dhikr)
Keep good company that reminds you of Allah
Seek refuge by saying:
“A‘udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim”
(I seek refuge in Allah from the cursed devil)
These actions build a shield of light around your soul, insha’Allah.
🌸 A Final Reflection
The story of Iblis is not just about him — it’s about us. It shows what happens when pride, jealousy, and disobedience enter the heart. But it also reminds us of Allah’s mercy — that no matter how many times we fall, as long as we return to Him sincerely, He forgives.
Let’s choose to be among those who humble themselves before Allah, seek His guidance, and resist Shaytan’s whispers every day.
