In Islam, dua (supplication) is one of the most powerful ways to connect with Allah (SWT). The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Dua is the essence of worship” (Tirmidhi). Below are some of the most profound duas with their Arabic, translations, and significance:
1. Dua for Forgiveness (Istighfar)
Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ
“Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh”
Translation: “I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance.”
- This dua helps cleanse sins and brings the mercy of Allah (SWT).
Hadith Reference: The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Whoever seeks forgiveness regularly, Allah will make a way out for them from every difficulty” (Abu Dawood).
2. Dua for Guidance and Steadfastness
Arabic:
رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ
“Rabbana la tuzigh quloobana ba’da idh hadaytana wa hablana min ladunka rahmah. Innaka antal-Wahhab.”
Translation: “Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.”
- Found in Surah Al-Imran (3:8), this dua is a plea for steadfastness in faith and Allah’s mercy.
3. Dua for Ease in Hardship
Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ لَا سَهْلَ إِلَّا مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلًا وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلًا
“Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahla wa anta taj’alul-hazna idha shi’ta sahla.”
Translation: “O Allah, there is no ease except what You make easy, and You make the difficult easy if You will.”

4. Dua for Parents
Arabic:
رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
“Rabbirhamhuma kama rabbayani sagheera.”
Translation: “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.”
- This dua, from Surah Al-Isra (17:24), honors and seeks blessings for parents.
5. Dua for Protection from Harm
Arabic:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
“Bismillahi alladhi la yadurru ma’asmihi shay’un fil-ardi wala fis-sama’i wa huwas-Sami’ul-Alim.”
Translation: “In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”
- Recite three times in the morning and evening for protection, as taught by the Prophet (PBUH).
6. Dua for Good in This World and the Hereafter
Arabic:
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
“Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina ‘adhaban-nar.”
Translation: “Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
- Found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:201), this dua balances worldly and spiritual needs.
7. Dua for Gratitude
Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ
“Allahumma inni ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ibadatika.”
Translation: “O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best of manners.”

Arabic:
حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
“Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel.”

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبْ الْبَأْسَ اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
“Allahumma Rabban-nas, adhhibil-ba’sa, ishfi anta ash-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uka, shifa’an la yughadiru saqama.”
Translation: “O Allah, the Lord of mankind, remove the harm and heal, for You are the Healer. There is no healing but Yours, a healing that leaves no ailment behind.”
10. Dua for Acceptance of Worship
Arabic:
رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
“Rabbana taqabbal minna innaka Antas-Sami’ul-Alim.”
Translation: “Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.”
- Often recited after performing good deeds or acts of worship.
